Clearwater Threshers’ right-hander Brad Pacheco has started the month of July with a pair of strong outings. His start prior to the All-Star Break was good enough to make him the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 6-12. He was the only Phillies minor league player to be given honors from their league.
Pacheco opened July with five innings of one-hit, one-walk ball against Ft. Myers and allowed just one unearned run in the outing. The five innings lowered his season ERA from 4.87 to 4.48 and evened his season record to 4-4 with the Threshers. Against Tampa Pacheco threw six shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out seven batters on July 9 in a 6-1 win over the Tarpons. After that start, Pacheco’s record stood at 5-4 and his ERA lowered to 4.08 in 16 games (14 starts).
Over May and June, Pacheco, 21, posted a 5.63 ERA in nine starts. The Phillies signed Pacheco as an international free agent in May of 2023 out of Venezuela. This is his first season with the Threshers. He pitched in the Dominican Summer League (DSL) for two seasons and was with the Phillies Florida Complex League (FCL) team last season.
The Threshers have done well in capturing weekly honors from the FSL this season. Seven different players have been honored by the league for a total of four Player of the Week awards and four Pitcher of the Week awards. Alirio Ferrebus has won the FSL Player of the Week award twice. Infielder Matthew Ferrara and outfielder Robert Phelps have also won the award. (Ferrara; Phelps) Right-handers Micah Ottenbreit, Ramon Marquez, Tanner Gresham, and now Pacheco, have all won the Pitcher of the Week award once this season. (Marquez; Gresham) Marquez was also named a Phillies Co-Pitcher of the Month in May and Griffin Burkholder of the Threshers was the Phillies Minor League Hitter of the Month in May.
