Clearwater keeps winning awards! Five different Threshers’ players have won a total of six weekly Florida State League (FSL) Player/Pitcher of the Week awards. Tanner Gresham became the latest honoree, being named the league’s Pitcher of the Week.
Gresham was the starting pitcher against St. Lucie in the first game of Wednesday night’s doubleheader. The 24-year-old right-hander pitched five innings of no-hit ball that started the Threshers on their way to a combined no-hitter and a 2-0 win over the Mets. Marty Gair and Gabe Craig both followed with an inning of hitless ball to close out the game.
In addition to not allowing any hits, Gresham also issued just one walk in the game. The walk came to St. Lucie’s leadoff hitter Elian Pena to start the bottom of the first. Gresham then retired 15 straight hitters, eight of them on strikeouts.
The outing lowered Gresham’s season ERA to 3.53 in 10 starts. It also gave Gresham his first win of the season to move his record to 1-3. Craig recorded his third save of the season for Clearwater. The fact that Gresham walked just one hitter was a key because on the season he has walked 4.8 hitters per nine innings. The eight strikeouts give Gresham 44 on the season in 35.2 innings of work.
The Phillies signed Gresham as an undrafted free agent in August of 2024. After high school, Gresham had enlisted in the Army where he pitched in college.
Clearwater starts the week 36-21 with a three-game lead over Fort Myers in the FSL West. They host Lakeland (27-29) for six games this week.
