Cristopher Sanchez was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for the month of May. Sanchez was unscored upon in five May starts for the Phillies, which extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 44.2 innings, the most ever by a Phillies pitcher.

The left-hander would add six more innings to the streak against San Diego on Wednesday night before having it broken. Ty France doubled and Jackson Merrill followed with an RBI single to end the streak at 50.2 scoreless innings. While falling short of the 59 consecutive scoreless innings by Orel Hershiser of the Dodgers, Sanchez did set the mark for consecutive scoreless innings by a left-hander, surpassing Carl Hubbell. The 50.2 innings leave Sanchez fourth on the all-time list.

Sanchez threw seven innings and beat San Diego 3-2 Wednesday night to give the Phillies five straight wins against the Padres this season. The 29-year-old allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out eight. He is now 7-2 on the season with a 1.46 ERA in 13 starts.

To win the monthly award, Sanchez went 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA in five starts, including throwing a complete game shutout against Pittsburgh. In 39 innings he gave up 25 hits and walked just three batters. He struck out 45 and finished May with a 0.72 WHIP and a .181 opponents’ against batting average.
