As a group, the Phillies prospects who are a part of the Surprise Saguaros roster in the Arizona Fall League went 0-for-9 with three strikeouts at the plate, but did manage to score three runs and the three position player prospects who played collected seven walks. On the mound, Andrew Walling allowed his first run of the spring in one inning of work. The Saguaros used a big nine-run first inning and held on for a 12-4 win over the Mesa Solar Sox.
Aidan Miller and Kehden Hettiger both drew three walks with Miller taking an 0-for-3 and Hettiger going 0-for-2 in the game, with both scoring a run. Both players along with Aroon Escobar (0-for-4) drew walks and scored a run in the nine-run first. Mesa starter Kyle Robinson (LA Angels) issued four walks in 0.2 innings of work. Nicholas Judice (Boston) gave up an RBI single and a bases loaded walk to let in two more runs and then surrendered a grand slam home run to Sebastian Walcott (Texas) on a 3-2 pitch.
Escobar reached on a fielder’s choice in the second inning and went to second when Hettiger walked. Both runners moved up on another walk, but were stranded in scoring position when Mesa got the third out of the inning without any further damage. Escobar was also credited with his second stolen base of the season when he swiped second in the first inning rally.
Walling came on to pitch the seventh and gave up a leadoff single followed by a groundball out that moved the runner to second. The second single of the inning for the Sox brought in a run that made it 12-5. Walling later hit a batter with a pitch, but didn’t allow any further runs. Walling now has a 3.00 ERA in three outings this fall.
