Outfielder Francisco Renteria (DSL) and pitcher Marty Gair (Clearwater) were given the Phillies Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month Honors for the month of June. Renteria signed with the Phillies during the offseason and June was his first month as a professional player. Gair was drafted by the Phillies in the 13th round of the 2023 Draft.
In 23 games – 93 plate appearances – Renteria slashed .386/.452/.602/1.054 with three home runs, 18 RBI and 23 runs scored for the DSL Phillies. He also had a double, four triples, and went 10-for-10 in stolen bases. The 17-year-old led the DSL in hits (32), was tied for second in triples, fifth in stolen bases (50) and tied for ninth in batting average for the first month of the DSL season.

Renteria’s first professional home run on June 15 coincided with an 11-game June hitting streak that has now carried over to a 13-game hitting streak with three more hits in two July games. During the streak Renteria launched his first grand slam on June 26 against the DSL White Sox.
In center field, Renteria handled his first 30 chances without a blemish to give him a 1.000 fielding percentage for June.
Gair came out of the bullpen to pitch seven games last month for Clearwater and went 1-1 with a 1.04 ERA, recording two saves in three opportunities. Facing 29 batters, he recorded 18 strikeouts and walked three with opponents batting just .038 (1-26) against him.

Among FSL relievers with at least five appearances in June, Gair had the highest strikeout rate (62.1-percent) and strikeouts per nine innings pitched (18.69). He also was second in WHIP (0.46), third in strikeouts, tied for third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.00) and eighth in ERA. The 22-year-old recorded his first professional win with a scoreless inning of relief against Jupiter on June 28, striking out two batters in the appearance.
Gair’s four-seam fastball is his calling card and among 56 single-A pitchers to throw at least 200 four-seamers, Gair posted the highest average velocity – 97.7 mph – among those pitchers.
The Phillies found Gair pitching at Florida Southwestern State Junior College and selected him in 2023.
