Dante Nori is going through what the Phillies hope will be a brief interruption to his season with Double-A Reading. Nori exited a game over the weekend and a source told Philly Baseball News that he is suffering from a minor glute injury. It’s thought that Nori will not be on the IL much – if any – longer than the seven-day minimum.
It’s been a tough season for Nori, who had some shoulder issues early in the season that limited him to being a designated hitter. The latest injury comes after Nori struggled through the month of May, batting just .198 in the month. Fortunately he began the season with a .298 average in April and had turned things around recently to put his season numbers at .245/.306/.361/.667 with two home runs and 20 runs batted in.
Nori, 21, was the Phillies first round pick – number 27 overall – in the 2024 Draft out of Northville High School in Michigan. He played 14 games with Clearwater late that summer and started the season with the Threshers last season before being bumped to Jersey Shore for 11 games and finally to Reading where he played five games at the end of last season. Nori then opened eyes as a member of Team Italy this past spring batting .400/.435/.750/1.185 with a pair of home runs and six RBI.
Neunborn gets promotion
Pitcher Mitch Neunborn was promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley from Reading on Wednesday. Neunborn, 28, went on the IL with Reading on April 2 with an undisclosed injury. The right-hander debuted on May 8 with the FCL Phillies and pitched two games there without allowing an earned run before moving up to Jersey Shore where he got hit around, allowing six earned runs in three innings. With Reading he pitched just one scoreless inning before being promoted.
Neunborn, who was born in South Africa, had his contract purchased by the Phillies from the Capitales of the Frontier League in 2023. The righty has worked his way through the system since then.
