You have to wonder why Bryan Rincon hasn’t gotten more attention this season. The 22-year-old switch-hitter is putting up impressive numbers in his first season at Double-A Reading.
Coming into the season, Rincon was pretty much of an afterthought as an offensive player having hit only as high as .258 and that came in just 18 games at Jersey Shore three years ago. His career high in home runs was eight which he did in 81 games with Clearwater in 2023 prior to the promotion to Jersey Shore.
In 84 games with the Fightins, Rincon has 20 home runs and 55 RBI to go with a slash line of .267/.402/.501. Last week Rincon slashed .429/.484/.786 for a phenomenal 1.270 OPS). He also scored eight runs, drove in four runs, and delivered four doubles and two home runs. In four of the six games in Portland last week, Rincon had multiple hits in four of them, including a four-hit game with three of his hits being doubles.
With a hit in each of the games last week, Rincon now has both a seven-game hitting streak and seven straight games with at least one run scored. During the streak he is batting .455 (15-for-33) with two home runs, five RBI and nine runs scored.
Not only is the award the first for Rincon, but it is the first one earned by a Reading player this season.
The Fightins are home this week against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
