After a 10-week stint on the IL, outfielder Dante Nori returned to the Reading Fightins lineup Tuesday in a morning game and showed no ill-effects of the stress fracture in his hip that put him on the IL back in June. Nori played one rehab game with Clearwater and four more with Jersey Shore on his way back to Reading.
In his first game with Reading, Nori struck out and grounded to first in his first two plate appearances before helping to fuel the Fightins to a come-from-behind 8-6 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. In his third at-bat, Nori singled and scored on an Alex Binelas double as Reading cut the Ponies lead to 4-3 in the inning. Nori then walked and stole a base in the seventh before hitting a go-ahead, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to cap a four-run inning and put the Fightins up 8-6. The win puts Reading 3 1/2 games up over Binghamton in the Eastern League’s Northeast Division standings.
Estibenzon Jimenez threw a scoreless ninth to record his fifth save. Jack Dallas threw two innings of scoreless relief, allowing no hits and just one walk to get the win to push his record to 2-1 this season.
Ironically, Nori suffered the injury against Binghamton on June 9th when he ran out a groundball and limped as he crossed the bag. The injury was originally diagnosed as glute tightness, but imaging revealed the stress fracture and sent him to the IL. Earlier in the season Nori had battled a shoulder injury while playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. The injury occurred when he misjudged a fly ball and slammed his shoulder awkwardly into the turn attempting to make a diving catch. The injury was a severe shoulder bone bruise that kept Nori out of most of spring training.
Nori had somewhat of a breakout as a member of Team Italy and it was thought that he would split this season between Reading and Lehigh Valley until the injury set him down.
In 53 games at Double-A this season, Nori is batting .250/.313/.370 with a .683 OPS. He has three home runs and 23 RBI and 13 steals in 20 attempts.
