The Phillies claimed corner infielder Brett Harris, 28, and Shay Whitcomb who is primarily a corner infielder but can also play both middle infield positions and left field. His experience at short and in left are limited. Whitcomb is also 28 and both players are right-handed hitters.

In addition to those moves, the Phillies announced that catcher Garrett Stubbs has officially elected to become a free agent after being designated for assignment by the Phillies. The team also activated four players – pitchers Brad Keller and Caleb Kilian, first baseman/outfielder Felix Reyes, and outfielder Johan Rojas – from the 60-day IL.

Harris played for three different organizations during the 2026 season spending most of his time at Triple-A but he did also play in 21 major league games with a .136/.240/.182 slash line. In his time at Triple-A Harris with the Athletics, Boston, and San Francisco, Harris slashed .288/.399/.449 with eight home runs and 53 RBI. He also drew 42 walks and scored 49 runs in 73 games.

In addition to his time at first and third base, Harris has some experience at second and short.

Harris made his MLB debut with the Athletics in 2024 after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 draft. Overall, he has 89 MLB games on his resume and is a .186 hitter.

Whitcomb spent last season in the Houston and San Francisco organizations. At the Triple-A level, Whitcomb hit .273/.335/.414 with 13 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, and 55 RBI. He also played in 49 MLB games this past season and appeared at every infield position and in left field.

Whitcomb was selected by Houston in the fifth round of the 2020 draft.

Both players were added to the 40-man roster. Harris is out of options but Whitcomb does have one option remaining. The Phillies 40-man roster currently stands at 38.
