The AFL season opened with three wins for the Surprise Saguaros and has seen three straight losses since then to drop the defending champions to a .500 record through the first week of games. The Peoria Javelinas downed the Saguaros 10-4 on Friday.

Aidan Miller, serving as the team’s DH on Friday, went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. Miller drove in two runs and also reached on a walk. He now has a slash line of .500 (6-for-12)/.700/.833/1.533 with four games played for Surprise.

Sebastian Walcott (Texas) led off the fourth inning with a double and scored when Miller followed with his first hit of the day. An inning later, Miller delivered a two-out triple to score Angeibel Gomez (Kansas City), who had singled and advanced on another single by Walcott.

Phillies infield prospect Aroon Escobar went 1-for-4, collecting his second hit of the season. He is now hitting .167 (2-for-12). Catcher Kehden Hettiger took an 0-for-4.

Reliever Keegan Batka come on in the second with bases loaded and one out. He walked the first batter he faced to force in a run before recording a pair of strikeouts to get out of the inning. Estibenzon Jimenez threw a perfect eighth inning for Surprise.

Playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions, catching prospect Luke Davis played first base and had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and three RBI in Scottsdale’s 11-10 walk-off win on Friday. Davis was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts coming into the game.

The Saguaros are off Saturday before they host Glendale on Sunday night.
