As expected, the Phillies have added Aidan Miller to the list of nine players they had already announced would be playing in the Arizona Fall League (AFL), which begins on Saturday. Miller was among the players who were set to play in last year’s AFL, but was scratched due to the back issues that caused him to miss most of the 2026 season.
Miller had his 2026 season debut pushed all the way back to September 5th with Clearwater and then moved up to Double-A Reading after just one game. He also played in all four of Reading’s postseason games and hit .286 (4-for-14) with three runs scored and three runs driven in for the Eastern League champions. Miller also played all four postseason games at third base after playing defensively at shortstop in all of his 215 minor league games. Reading had Bryan Rincon, who had a breakout season at the plate with Reading this season, playing shortstop. The Phillies also have Trea Turner entrenched at short in the majors, although there has been some discussion about moving Turner to the outfield.
Ironically, it was Rincon who replaced Miller for the Phillies in the AFL last season.
Nine of the ten Phillies players headed to the AFL, including Miller, will be on the Surprise Saguaros roster. The Phillies placed catcher Luke Davis on the Scottsdale Scorpions roster to fill an open roster spot.
Even with the injury setback, Miller is widely considered the top position player prospect for the Phillies. In his four professional seasons, Miller has a line of 25-106-.266/.384/.436/.821. The fact that Miller has been added to the AFL roster is a sign that the back issues that plagued him over the last calendar year did not reoccur after his time with Clearwater and Reading this season.
