Reading infielder Carson DeMartini was honored with the Eastern League Player of the Week award for the week ending September 13. DeMartini hit two home runs, drove in seven runs, and scored nine in the six games he played last week for Reading, to go with a slash line of .444/.607/.889 (1.496 OPS). The 23-year-old drew eight walks while striking out seven times and had three multi-hit games, including a three-hit game against Erie on Thursday. His RBI total put him in a tie for second in the league for the week and both his OBP and OPS were the highest in the EL. He also led the league in walks last week.
The Phillies selected DeMartini with their fourth round pick in 2024 out of Virginia Tech. He spent the ’24 season with Clearwater before splitting last season between Jersey Shore and Reading. In 2026 he was with the Fightins for the entire season with the exception of three rehab games with Clearwater. DeMartini missed time this season with a sprained left wrist that limited him to 55 games with Reading. Overall, he slashed .286/.421/.508 (.929 OPS), hit nine home runs and drove in 30 runs. He also had 11 doubles, two triples, and 18 stolen bases.
DeMartini played primarily at third base this season with 12 games at second base. He played 25 games at shortstop last season before being switched to being primarily a third baseman.
