In his first season with the Phillies, first baseman Alex Binelas has made the same move he made about a year ago going from Double-A to Triple-A late in the season. After playing most of last season with Portland, Binelas made a late season move to Triple-A Worcester. He would later be released by the Red Sox and sign with the Phillies.
This season Binelas started at Reading and played 116 games with the Fightin’ Phils with a slash line of .267/.382/.509/.891 and 26 home runs to go with 78 RBI and 73 runs scored. The 26 home runs are a career-high since he hit 25 homers combined between High-A and Double-A back in 2022 in the Red Sox organization.
It is worth noting that Reading’s FirstEnergy Stadium is known as a home run hitter’s dream park. It carries a home run rating of 1.526 with a rating of 1.000 being considered neutral. The only Double-A park grading higher is Hammons Field, the home of the Springfield Cardinals.
This will be the third straight season that Binelas will see some time at Triple-A. In 16 games with Worcester in 2024 and 2025, Binelas hit 3-9-.255/.352/.468/.820 with 10 runs scored.
Lehigh Valley manager Tank Adamson will be tasked with figuring out playing time for Binelas and current first baseman Keaton Anthony (8-37-.269/.344/.432/.779) in 62 games with Lehigh Valley.
On Monday catcher Rafael Marchan, who was with Lehigh Valley on a rehab assignment, and pitcher Grant Holman were added to the Phillies roster to fill the two spots on the expanded September roster that teams are allowed to carry.
