Earlier this month Francisco Renteria went hitless in 12 straight plate appearances, the longest stretch since signing with the Phillies as an international free agent. Clearly, someone had to pay for that.

Payment came due last week when Renteria hit .667 (12-for-18) with a .769 OBP and a 1.444 SLG. If you do the math that works out to an unbelievable 2.214 OPS in five games. The OBP was pumped up by drawing seven walks and the SLG was helped by three home runs, a pair of triples, and a double.

The 17-year-old scored 11 runs and drove in 11 runs and stole five bases for the Phillies DSL team that went 4-1 in the five games.

The performance led Renteria to be the DSL Player of the Week for the second time this season. He won his first POTW in late July. Renteria also earned a spot on the MLB Pipeline Prospect Team of the Week.

The DSL regular season wraps up Tuesday with the playoffs beginning Thursday. The Phillies have wrapped up the DSL East crown and start their push for the DSL Cup later this week.
