Trea Turner returned to the Phillies lineup Monday night against the Miami Marlins after suffering a bruised knee and ankle. Turner went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI while showing no lingering effects of the injuries.
Trea Turner fouled a pitch off of his knee and fell awkwardly to the ground after the impact. After talking with a trainer and interim manager Don Mattingly, Turner exited the game. There was concern that the injury may have been serious but after the pain subsided shortly after the incident and after a further evaluation, Turner was determined to have suffered a bruised right knee and ankle.
Mattingly kept Turner out of the lineup in Sunday’s game against the Twins, calling it a “precaution.” Turner was available to pinch-hit but did not appear in the game. It is believed he will be available Monday night at Citizens Bank Park when the Phillies open a series against the Miami Marlins.
Because the pain subsided quickly, the team decided that x-rays or other imaging were not necessary.
The Phillies pulled off a comeback win against Minnesota on Sunday after trailing 5-0. A pair of multi-run innings – four runs in the sixth and three runs in the eighth – carried the Phillies to a 7-5 win and a sweep of the three-game series. The two teams opened the series last Thursday in Dyersville, Iowa at the Field of Dreams with the Phillies getting a 7-1 win in that game. Philadelphia used a seven-run fifth inning on Saturday to win the middle game of the series 9-1 with 13 hits in the game.
