Former first round pick Kameron Misner became the newest member of the Phillies organization on Saturday when he was acquired from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations. The Miami Marlins made Misner, 28, the 35th overall pick out of the University of Missouri in 2019.
Misner played for the Mesa Solar Sox during the 2021 AFL season and shortly after that was dealt to Tampa Bay for second baseman Joey Wendle. In 2024, Misner made his MLB debut with the Rays going 0-for-1 against the Houston Astros. He ended that first season playing eight games and hitting .067 (1-for-15) with 10 strikeouts. Last season he batted .213 in 71 games with the Rays and was dealt to Kansas City last November.
The left-handed hitting Misner played in 18 games for Kansas City this season, playing all three outfield positions. In a Fourth of July weekend series against the Phillies, Misner appeared in all three games and went 0-for-5 with a walk and struck out three times, but did score one run in the series. During the All-Star Break, Misner was optioned back to Triple-A Omaha. In 63 games at Triple-A Omaha this year, he slashed .286/.378/.563 with a .941 OPS in 270 plate appearances. As a major leaguer, Misner has hit 5-26-.206/.259/.312 in 97 games.
The Royals designated Misner for assignment last Wednesday. After acquiring Misner, the Phillies optioned Misner to Triple-A Lehigh Valley and he is set to join the team Tuesday when they host Buffalo.
Outfielder Steward Berroa was designated for assignment by the Phillies to clear room for Misner on the 40-man roster. Berroa has been up with the Phillies earlier this season and in six games hit .143 (1-for-7), striking out four times. The Phillies had similarly acquired Berroa from Milwaukee back in April after he had been designated for assignment. In 58 games with Lehigh Valley, Berroa hit .258 with five home runs, 32 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 17 attempts.
