Philadelphia Baseball Events for July 16
- July 16, 1948 – Ben Chapman is fired as manager and replaced by Dusty Cooke. Chapman finished with a 196-276-2 managerial record. Cooke managed just 12 games with the Phillies going 6-6, before being replaced by Eddie Sawyer.
- July 16, 2001 – Yankee Ramiro Mendoza needs only three pitches to complete an inning against the Phillies. Eric Valent and Doug Glanville grounded out and Jimmy Rollins lined out — each on the first pitch they saw.
- July 16, 1964 – Traded first baseman/outfielder Roy Sievers to Washington for cash.
- July 16, 1983 – Traded infielder Larry Milbourne to the Yankees for cash. Milbourne had played just 41 games with the ’83 Phillies after being purchased from Cleveland in December of 1982.
- July 16, 1992 – Released pitcher Don Robinson, who had signed with the Phillies earlier in the season after being released by the California Angels. Robinson started eight games with the Phillies and went 1-4 with a 6.18 ERA prior to being released.

- Harry Felix (born 1875) – Pitched in nine games – five starts – for the 1903 Phillies with a 1-3, 5.60 ERA.
- Reggie Grabowski (born 1907) – A right-hander who pitched for the Phillies from 1932-1934 with a combined 4-8, 5.73 mark. Those were his only seasons in the majors.
- Tommy Joseph (born 1991) – Converted to being a first baseman after a series of concussions as a catcher. Played for the Phillies in 2016 and 2017 and hit 43-116-.247/.297/.460.
