It was just two months ago that Carter Kieboom signed a minor league deal with the Cleveland Guardians. The 28-year-old utility infielder hit just .160 with Cleveland this spring and on Saturday was dealt to the Phillies in a cash deal. It’s likely that Kieboom will open the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and serve as infield depth.
Kieboom, 28, is the younger brother of Spencer Kieboom, who spent some time with Washington as a first baseman and catcher. Carter Kieboom was a first round pick by Washington in the 2016 Draft and played four seasons with them, but spent all of the 2024 season playing at Triple-A Rochester. His career has had some bumps along the way because of injuries. The younger Kieboom had Tommy John surgery in 2022 and then dealt with oblique and shoulder injuries the following season. He also missed nearly three weeks in September of 2024 while with Rochester.
Kieboom spent last season in the Los Angeles Angels organization after signing with them as a minor league free agent following the 2024 season. He played just three games in the majors with the Angels in 2025, but has played in parts of five seasons at the major league level with a career line of: 12-43-.200/.297/.300/.597 in 136 games.
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs open their season at home Friday night against the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit).
