Philly Baseball News

"The one constant through all the years, has been baseball."

The Story of Philly Baseball News

Philly Baseball News is dedicated to covering everything about Philadelphia baseball — from the Phillies major league club down through their minor league system and even into the Phillies of tomorrow, who have yet to be drafted. We focus primarily on young players in the minor league system and how they could potentially impact the organization in the future. Our goal is to provide more than just box scores. We aim to provide insights into what makes players who they are while objectively examining their strengths and weaknesses. Much of the story is told through their own words and the words of coaches, scouts, and front office personnel.

PBN is also working to improve our video presence to give our readers the opportunity to do their own evaluation of players in the system, while still providing the usual coverage we have provided through various avenues since 2003.

The site was founded by longtime sports broadcaster and journalist Chuck Hixson, who saw a need for deeper, more insightful coverage of the Phillies and their affiliates. Chuck serves as the Editor and Senior Writer of Philly Baseball News, and is a longtime sports fan, broadcaster and reporter. His foray into sports broadcasting began in 1997 when he took over as the program director and host of the morning show on WTKZ radio in Allentown, PA. From there, he went on to be the associate editor of Pinstripes Magazine in Philadelphia and has served as a freelance writer and photographer for entities including CBS Sports, USA TODAY, FOX Sports and various national, regional and local print publications. Chuck also serves as a guest baseball analyst on the PA Sports Network broadcast on radio stations across Pennsylvania and writes a weekly column on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for the Lehighton Times News.

Chris “Talon” Renner was right by Chuck’s side at the first incarnation of what is now Philly Baseball News. Like Chuck, Talon has an interest not just in present day Phillies, but in the history of the Philadelphia Phillies and the players, coaches, and broadcasters who have been a part of their legacy.
