A pair of new managers will join the Phillies minor league organization this spring. Low-A Clearwater says good-bye to Marty Malloy, who had led the club since 2021 and Jersey Shore’s Greg Brodzinski exits after three seasons and 209 wins to his credit. Taking over their spots are Aaron Barrett in Clearwater and Mycal Jones at High-A Jersey Shore.

Clearwater also has two new members of their pitching coaches with the addition of Matt Ellmyer to be the pitching coach and Alex Concepcion serving as the assistant pitching coach. The hitters will have Chris Heintz returning as the hitting coach and Desmond Jennings returns to be the position and assistant hitting coach.

Barrett was a pitcher who appeared in 95 games with the Washington Nationals in two different stints. He was in the majors in 2014 and 2015 and pitched in the minors before returning in 2019 and 2020 with the Nats. Barrett signed with the Phillies organization in March of 2022 and was assigned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but did not pitch until July 4th when he threw an inning and later announced his retirement. The 38-year-old went immediately into coaching in the Phillies organization and has served as the Phillies minor league rehab pitching coordinator.

Former Clearwater manager Shawn Williams will be back in the dugout as the Threshers bench coach under Barrett.

Ellmyer began as a player development associate with the Phillies for the 2021 season and was a pitching coach for Jersey Shore in 2024 and at Lehigh Valley in 2025. Concepcion enters his 11th season as a Phillies minor league coach.

For the BlueClaws, Jones was on the Reading coaching staff under Al Pedrique last season. Jones is coming into his seventh season in the Phillies organization and is the 18th manager of the ‘Claws, who enter their 25th Anniversary Season.

The rest of the coaching staff has Ryan Buchter (pitching coach), Darnell Sweeney (hitting coach) Ryan Wrobleski (position coach/assistant hitting coach) and Orlando Munoz (position coach).

Buchter enters his second season as the team’s pitching coach. Sweeney is new to the BlueClaws coaching staff in 2026. Sweeney came to the Phillies as a player from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the trade that sent Chase Utley to the Dodgers. Sweeney played in the majors with Toronto and Philadelphia and retired as a player after the 2024 season.

Wrobleski is another first-year coach on the staff after playing four seasons in the Astros organization out of Dallas Baptist University. This is Wrobleski’s first season as a coach. Munoz is back for his third go-around on the Jersey Shore coaching staff.

Al Pedrique returns for his fourth season at the helm of the Reading Fightins. Following the 2025 season, Pedrique was named the winner of the John Vukovich Award. The award goes to a minor league instructor in the organization who exemplifies the characteristics of the award’s namesake: loyalty, dedication, competitiveness, knowledge, honesty and a terrific work ethic.

Malloy, the former Clearwater manager, will serve as Pedrique’s bench coach in Reading. Brad Bergersen will serve as the pitching coach with Alex Harter as his assistant pitching coach. On the hitting side, Jeff Livesey takes over as the hitting coach for Brock Stassi, who exited the organization to become an assistant coach and hitting and recruiting coordinator at Jessup College.

For Lehigh Valley, Anthony Contreras, who is not only the winningest manager in IronPigs history, but now becomes the first manager to lead the team for five straight seasons, returns. Returning alongside Contreras is Chris “Tank” Adamson (Bench Coach), Phil Cundari (Pitching Coach), and Adam Lind (Hitting Coach).
