The Adelaide Giants truly are giants in the Australian Baseball League (ABL). Adelaide has now won three of the last four ABL championships after downing the Sydney Blue Sox 6-2 to take the best-of-three series 2-1. The Giants have a distinct Philadelphia flair in the dugout and on the field. Sydney does not have any Phillies on their roster.
The team is managed by Australian native Chris “Tank” Adamson with 2025 Clearwater Threshers position coach Nerluis Martinez on the coaching staff. The roster has no less than eight Phillies prospects. Catcher Alirio Ferrebus, shortstop Jose Colmenares, outfielders Manolfi Jimenez, Raylin Heredia, and Devin Saltiban, plus pitchers Camron Hill, Danyony Pulido, and Giuseppe Velasquez.

The ABL champion is awarded the Claxton Shield, which is considered Australian baseball’s oldest and most prestigious trophy. It was donated by Norrie Claxton, a former president of the Southern Australia Baseball League, in 1934.
In the Game 3 win over Sydney, Adelaide had offensive contributions from Colmenares, who had two singles and a walk. He also drove in a run and scored a run. Colmenares hit .357/.422/.875/1.297 in 16 games with Adelaide this season. Saltiban singled, walked, and scored a run. Saltiban, who turns 21 next month, led Adelaide in hitting among players with 20 or more games played, with a .321 average as part of a .370/.529/.899 slash line. He also hit 5 home runs in 35 games. Raylin Heredia, hit two home runs and drove in eight runs in 14 games with Adelaide and hit .327/.373/.545/.918 for Adelaide, singled in five at-bats in the championship game.
On the mound, Danyony Pulido, 23, was the only Phillies prospect who made it into the game pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing a hit and getting one strikeout. He was able to get a 3-6-3 double play to end the game. Pulido struggled at times during the ABL season and posted a 1-1, 6.14 record in 15 relief appearances.
