Another week of Arizona Fall League games is in the books and the Surprise Saguaros, home to eight Phillies prospects, have fallen out of the top spot in the standings for the first time this season. At 5-4, Surprise stands 1 1/2 games behind the Scottsdale Scorpions (7-3).
For one Phillies infield prospect, the AFL has not been a lot of fun. Bryan Rincon has opened the AFL season on an 0-for-13 run with five strikeouts and just two walks. Rincon, a 21-year-old shortstop prospect, has struggled at the plate since the Phillies drafted him in the 14th round of the 2022 Draft. Defensively, Rincon has been solid, although not overly impressive through the minors. The Phillies were hoping he would compete well against top prospects in the AFL and follow that up with a strong 2026 season. With Jersey Shore in 2025, Rincon slashed .181/.304/.298 in 84 games and his career minor league stats work out to just a .206/.337/.333 average over three seasons.
Dylan Campbell‘s numbers have come down to Earth a little after he went through an 0-for-7 streak before snapping out of it with a solo home run – his second of the AFL season – in his first at-bat on Sunday. Campbell’s current line stands at 2-4-.286/.448/.667 in seven games with the Saguaros. Dante Nori is still nursing an injury and has not played in the past week.
On the mound, Eiberson Castellano gave up three earned runs in three innings in his latest start for Surprise. The outing came after he threw three shutout innings in his first state, but he had eight days rest between starts because of bad weather in the Southwest. He is now 1-1, 6.00 with a 1.33 WHIP.
Among the relievers, Jack Dallas has thrown five shutout innings, but has given up three walks and three hits in that span. Opponents are hitting .333 against him. Jaydenn Estanista had a slightly better outing in his second relief appearance than he did in his first outing. Considering he gave up two earned runs in just 0.2 innings in his opener, that’s not saying much. In his second outing, he made it through a full inning, but gave up another earned run on three hits. His AFL ERA stands at 10.13. Daniel Harper‘s first two outings were good, but then he went off the rails against Scottsdale and allowed four earned runs in 0.2 innings, bumping his ERA from 0.00 to 18.00. Finally, right-hander Tommy McCollum threw a shutout inning against Scottsdale on Sunday. He now has three outings under his belt and is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA. McCollum has allowed two hits and two walks in 2.2 innings of work, posting a 1.200 WHIP and a .154 average against.
