“If you build it, they will come,” goes the line from the 1989 movie Field of Dreams. Well, they haven’t come back for three years, but in 2026, the Phillies and Mets will show up in Dyersville, Iowa for the third rendition of the Field of Dreams Game. The spectacle was supposed to become an annual event, but was dropped after two seasons. In 2021 the Yankees and White Sox walked through the corn in the outfield to enter the stadium in a remake of the famous movie scene. In 2022 the Cubs and Reds took to the field.

The game takes place in the same place where the movie was filmed with MLB having upgraded the field for the 2021 game. The field was sold after the 2022 game and more renovations were done including the addition of Little League Fields.

Now, MLB is putting the game back on the schedule for 2026 and have selected to have the Phillies meet the Minnesota Twins. The exact date is expected to be sometime in mid-August of ’26 and will be officially known on Tuesday (Aug. 26) when the 2026 MLB schedule is released. According to Matt Gelb and Dan Hayes of The Athletic, the Minnesota Twins will be the home team.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today notes that March 26 has been set as Opening Day for the 2026 season, and another showcase will be between the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres in a Mexico City Series. It is expected that the MLB Little League Classic will again be played in Williamsport, PA next August as it has been since 2017 when the Pirates and Cardinals played. The Phillies have played in the LLC twice before, facing the New York Mets in 2018 and the Washington Nationals in 2023. That game is played at historic Bowman Field, the home of the Williamsport Crosscutters, who were at one time a minor league affiliate of the Phillies. The Phillies also played the Mets in the London Series in June of 2025. Major League Baseball did not schedule a London Series for 2025, but it is rumored to be returning in 2026.

MLB has been drawn to unusual venues of late including Bristol Motor Speedway for the Speedway Classic this season and in 2024 played a game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama to celebrate the history of the Negro Leagues.
