The Phillies are getting a pair of key players off the IL just in time to wrap up their four-game series against Washington. Both players have been on rehab assignments with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Nola made three starts and Bohm got 21 at-bats in five games at Triple-A.
Nola will make his return start Sunday against the Nationals after the Phillies have lost two of the first three games in the series. Nola’s return comes at the perfect time after Zack Wheeler was placed on the IL with a blood clot in his right shoulder. In his three rehab starts, Nola posted a 2.19 ERA giving up 11 hits and three walks in 12.1 innings of work. The right-hander struck out 17 batters and held hitters to a .229 average. He threw 84 pitches in his final start on Tuesday against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees).
Bohm hit just .143 (3-for-21) with Lehigh Valley. Two of his three hits – a triple and a two-run home run – being for extra bases in Buffalo against the Bisons. The third baseman was hit by a pitch in San Diego on July 12 and suffered a fractured left rib. Originally, it was thought he would be able to play through the injury, but was placed on the IL after the all-star break.
Both players reported feeling no effects from their injuries throughout their rehab assignments.
