When the Phillies acquired closer Jhoan Duran from the Minnesota Twins, they also acquired his entrance video and music. It was that super-hype entrance that introduced Duran to Phillies fans at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night. For himself, Duran – nicknamed Durantula – wasn’t out there long, needing just four pitches to put the Tigers down in order in the ninth and lock down the win for Philadelphia.

It was a good night for the newbies from the Land of 1,000 Lakes. First, Harrison Bader came on to pinch-hit in the seventh and worked a walk and later scored the tying run that made it a 3-3 game. Orion Kerkering ruined the mood when he gave up a leadoff home run to Wenceel Perez in the eighth, but the Phillies came back to put up two runs in their half of the inning for the 5-4 lead, setting up the other former Twins player to make his Philadelphia debut: Enter Durantula

The outing lasted just four pitches as Duran got Colt Keith to ground out on two pitches and then got Spencer Torkelson (popup) and Riley Greene (lineout) on the first pitch to record the save, the 29th of the season for Duran and first as a Philly.

Ranger Suarez threw seven innings, allowing a three-run home run to Gleybar Torres in the third inning to account for Detroit’s 3-0 lead. Kerkering allowed the one run in one inning and Duran came on to close out the game.

Nick Castellanos had two hits and scored two runs and Otto Kemp came off the bench to get two hits, score two runs, and drive in one run for the Phillies.

The win combined with the Mets loss to the Giants puts the Phillies back on top in the NL East by 1/2 game over New York.
