Venezuelan Winter League
It was a good week for Wuilfredo Antunez. The 24-year-old outfielder became the first Phillies player in any of the fall or winter leagues to homer when he launched a solo home run to leadoff the top of the fifth inning Thursday in a losing effort against Margarita. He has a current eight-game hitting streak and is batting .429 (12-for-28) during that stretch after an 0-for-6 start to the season. Juan Villavicencio homered in the top of the seventh of his game with Zulia on Thursday for his first long-ball of the season.
Francisco Renteria is one of the Phillies top prospects but he hasn’t played in a week; here’s why.
Saul Teran had his third of three save opportunities this season with Caribas. Meanwhile, Giussepe Velasquez allowed his first earned runs of the season this week that took his ERA to 1.29. In 14 innings he has walked four batters, but has also struck out 17.
