It was 20 years ago that Tommy Pham was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2006 Draft. He debuted with St. Louis in 2014 and has since been with Tampa Bay, San Diego, Cincinnati, Boston, the Mets, Arizona, the White Sox, back to St. Louis, on to Kansas City, then to Pittsburgh, and back to the Mets; and those are just the major league stops.

The move screams of desperation as the Phillies expand their search for a right-handed hitting outfielder. Pham has played just nine major league games this season with the Mets and was 0-for-13. In his career, Pham is a career .256/.344/.421/.765 hitter 25 home runs, 149 RBI and 653 runs scored.

The Phillies assigned Pham to Triple-A Lehigh Valley and he is expected to join the team Tuesday in Rochester. The Phillies hope that he might be able to by become the veteran right-handed hitting outfielder that the team has been searching for.

Another new face

The Phillies also signed catcher Scott Mudler to a minor league contract. The former Oklahoma Sooners catcher went undrafted in the 2025 Draft.

The 23-year-old is known primarily for his defensive skills, but in two seasons with Oklahoma (2024-2025), Mudler hit .270/.360/.422/.788 with six home runs and 49 RBI in 79 games.

Mudler was assigned to the Florida Complex League to start his professional career, but could be bumped up pretty quickly as he regains his footing both at the plate and behind the plate. The Phillies are not deep in catchers, so Mudler will give them another young option.
