Trea Turner left Monday night’s game with a bruised wrist after being hit by a pitch two innings earlier. The x-rays were negative, so there are no brakes or structural damage to be concerned about. How much time Turner will miss or whether he would need to spend time on the IL are still not clear.
When Turner exited, interim manager Don Mattingly inserted Alec Bohm, who was given a night off after Mattingly said he was “banged up a little” prior to the game. Edmundo Sosa, who had started in place of Bohm slid over to short with Bohm taking his usual spot at third. That alignment would work in the very short term, but if Turner were to need to go to the IL, obviously, someone would be added to fill his roster spot.
The only option for a player on the 40-man roster would be Christian Cairo, whose contract called for him to be added to the roster at the end of spring training. Cairo, the son of former Phillies utility player Miguel Cairo, is hitting .257/.406/.324/.730 with Lehigh Valley. In his career, Cairo has played second, third, and short primarily, but has also played some left and center field. This season he has just one game at second and one in center field with the IronPigs.
Cairo was drafted by Cleveland in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, and has yet to make his major league debut.
Lehigh Valley also has Dylan Moore and Robert Moore on the roster. Dylan Moore opened the season with the Phillies, but in 15 games, he went 0-for-12 and was designated for assignment. He cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Lehigh Valley. Dylan Moore is batting .239/.309/.284/.593 with Lehigh Valley.
Robert Moore was signed during the offseason and in 37 games, is hitting .233/.345/.422/.767 with four home runs and 20 RBI.
