Catcher Alirio Ferrebus put together big stats last week for the Clearwater Threshers. The 20-year-old has played well this season but last week was especially strong. In six games, Ferrebus hit .381 (8-21) with a 1.179 OPS, six runs scored, two home runs and nine RBI. He capped the week with a 3-4 day on Sunday with a three-run home run in a 6-3 loss to Bradenton.
The Phillies signed Ferrebus as an international free agent out of Venezuela in January of 2023. He spent that summer in the Dominican Summer League and then played in the Florida Complex League in 2024, and in June of last year joined the Threshers. He spent the offseason playing for Adelaide in the Australian Baseball League.
On the season, Ferrebus has three home runs with 18 runs batted in to go with a slash line of: .308/.395/.538/.933 through 18 games.

While Ferrebus is listed as a catcher and he has spent the majority of his minor league time behind the plate, his defense has not progressed as well as the Phillies hoped that it would. In his eight games this season he has started 10 games as a DH and eight as a catcher. In those eight games he has committed four errors and has a .960 fielding percentage. He has thrown out five of 15 would-be basestealers (33-percent), which is above the league average.
The Phillies have used him at third base in 35 games during his minor league career, but have not had him there yet this season. In those games he has a .988 fielding percentage.
Ferrebus follows teammate Matthew Ferrara, who was awarded last week’s Florida State League Player of the Week award. Previously this season, Reading’s Luke Russo was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 12.
