After an unsuccessful stint in the Phillies bullpen this season, James Norwood is headed to Beantown to be a member of the Boston Red Sox. In his time with the Phillies this season, Norwood went 1-0, 8.31 in 20 games out of the bullpen prior to being dealt to Boston.

UPDATE (June 20, 2022): Before even appearing in a game with Boston, Norwood was designated for assignment to make room for infielder Jeter Downs, who is getting his first MLB opportunity.

The Phillies acquired Norwood from the Padres during spring training for minor leaguer Kervin Pichardo. The Phillies had designated Norwood for assignment prior to sending him to Boston for cash considerations.

Norwood has excellent velocity and the ability to strikeout hitters – 22 Ks in 17.1 IP – but also walked nine batters and opponents hit .316 against the 28-year old righty.
