Today is the launch of something new. It’s something I have been thinking about for a long time and working on over the past couple of weeks. It’s the launch of PBN Extra Innings. Consider it a companion to the news and information you get on PhillyBaseball.News and it’s on Substack.

PBN Extra Innings (PBNEI) will take you into much of the behind the scenes stuff from things that we report on here on PBN. It’s important to know that the coverage here will not change; in fact, we have some new ideas planned for the upcoming season that we think will be of interest. PBNEI gives me, as the editor of this site and a longtime baseball fan and reporter, the opportunity to give more details into stories that we report on here. Whether it’s insight on what happened in a certain situation and why, my personal thoughts on a particular player, coach, or manager, or some stories that come to mind from 25 years of covering the sport that I love.

Is it free?

Ah, the big question. It was actually the first question that I had to answer as well. So, the answer is: yes and no. Much of it will be free, including a weekly newsletter that will detail the week in Phillies baseball from the major league club all the way down to draft picks and the guys on the backfields at Clearwater. Some of it though will be contained behind a paywall that I believe is pretty affordable to get through.

The paid stuff will dive even deeper and reveal more about the game and the players that play it. No, it’s not a gossip rag. It’s the ins and outs of the person and what makes them successful (or not). It’s the stuff that didn’t fit into the PBN post and the parts of the interviews that got left “on the cutting room floor.” Eventually, it will include audio and video and potentially, some live video feeds.
