It’s not Cooperstown or the Phillies Wall of Fame, but it’s an honor. Trea Turner‘s college alma mater, North Carolina State honored him and three other alumni – Mike Caldwell, Dan Plesac, and Turner’s teammate Carlos Rodon – by placing them on their Baseball Ring of Honor. The four will have their numbers, for Turner, that’s number 8, displayed on the outfield fence at Doak Field, the home field of the NC Wolfpack. The four players were honored at halftime of NC State’s football game against Florida State.

In his time at NC State, Turner set the school’s single season record with 57 stolen bases in his freshman season and went on to become the all-time stolen base leader at the school with 113 stolen bases. He was also a three-time All-American and won the 2014 Brooks Wallace Award as the nation’s top collegiate shortstop.

Turner went on to be drafted by San Diego with the 13th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft and a year later was sent to the Washington Nationals as the player to be named later in a three-team trade between the Nationals, Padres, and Tampa Bay Rays. One month after acquiring him, the Nationals brought him to the majors and he made his MLB debut on July 15, 2015 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

At the 2021 trade deadline, Turner and pitcher Max Scherzer were traded to the Dodgers for four minor league players, none of which have become impact players for the Nats. The Phillies signed him as a free agent in December of 2022 to an 11-year, $300-million contract. With the Phillies last season, Turner hit .304 and won his second batting title. In his time with the Phillies, Turner has been an All-Star in 2024 and was fifth in MVP voting in 2025. Overall, he is a three-time All-Star and has received MVP votes in four seasons.
