The World Series is officially over and the offseason is upon us. For some of baseball’s best prospects, the season continues in the desert sun as part of the Arizona Fall League (AFL). Eight Phillies prospects are among that group of prospects and are looking to open some eyes for next season and gain experience as members of the Surprise Saguaros. Let’s check in on how they’re doing.

Dylan Campbell – The outfield prospect had a short three-game and four out of the last five games streak broken on Sunday. Over the past week, Campbell went 4-for-11 (.364) with no home runs, four RBI, and two stolen bases. He is not batting .250 (11-for-44) with the Saguaros.

Dante Nori – Nori went 5-for-12 (.412) this week with no home runs, but he did drive in three runs. The 21-year-old outfield prospect walked three times and struck out just once. His week boosted his line to 0-5-.375/.483/.417/.900 on the season.

Bryan Rincon – The 21-year-old infielder is probably wishing he had just stayed home this fall. Rincon went just 1-for-10 this week, but he did drive in two runs with a two-run single as his only hit. Rincon is now just 3-for-34 (.088) this fall and has walked five times while striking out 12 times. Defensively, Rincon had a two-error game on Wednesday and now has four errors in 75 innings of defense this fall.

Eiberson Castellano – Castellano got the start on Sunday and allowed just one earned run in four innings of work. He gave up two hits and four walks while picking up three strikeouts. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA and seven walks and 18 strikeouts in four starts covering 10 innings of work.

Jack Dallas – The righty made his first start of the fall season and pitched two innings. The first inning he gave up two hits and walked three batters. A baserunning blunder led to one of the runners being erased and he got the final out of the inning on a strikeout. In his second and final inning, he gave up a leadoff walk before striking out the side to finish with four walks and four strikeouts. The run was the first he has allowed in the AFL, raising his ERA to 1.00.

Jaydenn Estanista – The 24-year-old made two relief appearances this week, both against Peoria, and did not allow a run in either. He did allow two walks in the first outing, but was perfect in the second. Slowly, but surely, his ERA is coming down after starting the year with an ERA of 27.00 after his first outing, he has lowered it to 7.50. Estanista has had five relief appearances since his first disastrous outing and has a 2.81 ERA in those outings.

Daniel Harper – Like Estanista, Harper had one bad outing this fall and it killed his ERA. In his two outings this week, the 26-year-old threw 2.2 innings , gave up one hit, walked three and struck out two. Take away a bad outing against Scottsdale back on October 19 and Harper has five shutout innings on his resume, but he has struggled with command and that has resulted in five walks and five strikeouts in the AFL.

Tommy McCollum – The right-hander made two relief appearances this week, pitching in games on Friday and Saturday. The outings equaled 1.2 innings of work and he was hit by some bad fielding that allowed three runs to score against him, only one of which was earned. He did allow five hits and two walks in the two outings, so he was not blameless. McCollum, 26, now has pitched five innings in five relief appearances and is 2-0, 3.60 for the Saguaros.

The standings

The Surprise Saguaros met up with the Scottsdale Desert Dogs twice this week and split a pair of one-run games. Scottsdale won the first 5-4 and then dropped the game the next day by an 8-7 score. The Saguaros (13-7) have fallen two games behind Scottsdale (16-6) in the AFL standings. The Mesa Solar Sox are 11-11, three games behind the Saguaros and the Peoria Javelinas are now 10-11, 3.5 games behind Surprise. The Salt River Rafters (8-14) are six games back of Surprise and the Glendale Desert Dogs sit 7.5 games behind the Saguaros at 6-15 for the bottom spot in the AFL standings.
