After a break to allow the remnants of a hurricane to roll through the Southwest, the Arizona Fall League resumed games this week. The Phillies eight players are assigned to the Surprise Saguaros who opened the season with a 3-0 mark. They lost their first game on Tuesday, but have added two wins since them and their 5-1 record is leading the six-team league.
Dylan Campbell is getting the most playing time. The 23-year-old outfielder has played in five games with 15 at-bats and has five hits, two of which are doubles and the other is a home run for a .667 SLG. Campbell has also walked six times, pushing his on-base percentage to .500 in the early going. The Phillies are toying with Campbell’s position and he has played second, third, and center so far.
Dante Nori has gotten just two at-bats and is hitting .500. Bryan Rincon is 0-for-8, but is at least making contact and has struck out just once. This is Rincon’s second season in the AFL.
Among pitchers, Jack Dallas, 26, has made two relief appearances and has covered five innings without allowing a run. He has walked three batters, but has struck out eight hitters for the Saguaros. Tommy McCollum has also pitched in two games, but has just 2.1 innings of work. The defense hurt him and let in three runs, only one of which was earned, for a 3.86 ERA. Daniel Harper has a walk and a strikeout in one relief inning and Jaydenn Estanista was hit hard in his first outing giving up two earned runs in just 0.2 innings.
Eiberson Castellano, 24, made a start very early on for Surprise and threw thee innings and allowed one run for a 3.00 ERA with no walks and four Ks.
