Lehigh Valley IronPigs
The IronPigs secured a 4–1 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees) behind a commanding performance from their pitching staff and timely hitting. Andrew Painter (5-5, 5.35) delivered his best outing of the season, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just three singles, striking out six, and walking none. He retired the final nine batters he faced and handed the ball to Jacob Waguespack, who followed with two perfect innings. Lucas Sims and Nolan Hoffman closed out the eighth and ninth, respectively, combining for four more outs without allowing a baserunner. From the third through ninth innings, IronPigs pitching retired 18 consecutive batters.
Offensively, Lehigh Valley broke a 1–0 game open in the sixth inning. Aidan Miller, in just his second Triple-A game, doubled to lead off the frame. Gabriel Rincones Jr. followed with an RBI double, Payton Henry added a run-scoring single, and Paul McIntosh capped the rally with another RBI knock. Oscar Mercado had opened the scoring earlier with a solo home run in the second inning.
The IronPigs improved to 83–55 on the season and continue to chase a playoff berth in the International League. The IronPigs trail Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by 5 1/2 games for the second half championship, which would send them into the playoffs against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins), the winners of the first half championship.
Reading Fightin Phils
Reading staged a dramatic ninth-inning comeback and walked off the Somerset Patriots 5–3 in extra innings. Trailing 3–1 entering the bottom of the ninth, Aaron Escobar singled and advanced to third on a pair of errors. Felix Reyes, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, drove in Escobar with his 34th double of the season. Reyes was replaced by pinch-runner Cade Fergus, who scored the tying run on a Dylan Campbell grounder that was mishandled. The game went to extras, where Kehden Hettiger launched his first Double-A home run – a two-run blast – to seal the win. Felix Reyes continued his standout season, raising his batting average to .341 and extending his league-leading doubles total. Erick Brito and Nick Dunn each added a hit, while Campbell contributed a key RBI despite not recording a hit.
The Fightins’ bullpen was exceptional. Jaydenn Estanista, Saul Teran, and Alex McFarlane (2-0, 3.86) combined for five scoreless innings. Estanista struck out three and allowed just one hit in his frame. Teran pitched two perfect innings, and McFarlane struck out three across two innings, including the tenth, earning the win.
Reading improved to 53–79 overall and 28–37 in the second half.
