Minor league seasons are coming to an end with Jersey Shore and Clearwater having played their final regular season games on Sunday. For the Threshers, the Florida State League (FSL) playoffs begin on Tuesday, but Jersey Shore is not heading to the postseason, so their season is over.
The season would have been over for Jersey Shore teammates Aroon Escobar and Dante Nori as well, but the Phillies have signed them up for one more week of baseball by bumping the duo up a level to Double-A Reading. Meanwhile, Aidan Miller would have seen his season end after six more games with Reading, but he was also given an extra week of games when the Phillies moved him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Reading will wrap up their season at home this week against Somerset (Yankees) while Lehigh Valley plays at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees) this week and then returns home to finish the season against Syracuse (Mets) next week. The three players are highly ranked in the Phillies list of Top 30 Prospects with Miller being number two, Escobar number five, and Nori number six according to Baseball Pipeline.
Miller played 102 combined games at Clearwater, Jersey Shore, and Reading last season, hitting a combined 11-60-.261/.366/.446 with 23 stolen bases between the three stops. He has come close to or eclipsed all of those numbers this season with Reading, hitting 13-41-.259/.382/.427 and stealing 52 bases in 108 games.
The 21-year-old has played exclusively at shortstop in professional baseball and holds a .936 fielding percentage over his three seasons in the Phillies organization. Miller has 20 errors in 330 total chances at short this season with Double-A Reading for a .940 fielding percentage.
The Phillies drafted Miller with their first pick – number 27 overall – in 2023 out of Mitchell High School in New Port Richey, FL. In addition to being the Phillies number two prospect, Miller is the 47th overall best prospect in baseball.
The Phillies signed Escobar as an international free agent just two weeks after his 17th birthday. The Venezuela native played two seasons in the Dominican Summer League prior to joining the Florida Complex League (FCL) for the 2024 season. In his two DSL seasons, Escobar hit four home runs and drove in 45 while batting just .225, but something clicked for him in the ’24 season and he .338/.495/.481 with three home runs and 17 RBI. This season, Escobar has taken off and will have played at three different levels when the season is done. The 20-year-old found his power stroke with Clearwater, but still maintained a strong batting average, hitting .285 with a career-high 11 home runs for the Threshers, which earned him a promotion to High-A Jersey Shore in early July.
In 46 High-A games this season, Escobar hit .258 with four home runs and 19 RBI to give him a season mark of 15-61-.274/.366/.420 in 115 games between Clearwater and Reading. Defensively, Escobar played a total of 103 games at second base with a .967 fielding percentage. He also played three games at third for Clearwater. On the basepaths, Escobar has stolen 24 bases this season – 10 with Clearwater and 14 at Jersey Shore.
Nori was born in Toronto, Canada and attended Northville High School in Michigan was the Phillies first round pick – number 27 overall – in 2024. Last season, the outfield prospect played 14 games with Clearwater and opened this season back with the Threshers where he added another 109 games to his resume. In his time with the Threshers, Nori hit 4-52-.260/.370/.370 before his promotion to High-A Jersey Shore. In just 11 games with the BlueClaws, Nori was impressive enough for the late season push to Reading after slashing .279/.396/.376 at the shore.
The 20-year-old has played primarily in center field and has made just one error in 230 minor league chances for a .996 fielding percentage. He also has four outfield assists. Nori has played five games in left field as well. Like Miller, Nori has also reached the 50 stolen bases mark this season with 37 for Clearwater and another 13 during his time with Jersey Shore.
The Phillies also promoted a pair of right-handed pitchers to Reading recently. Saul Teran (5-1, 1.23) and Cristhian Tortosa (4-3, 3.93). Teran pitched for both Clearwater and Jersey Shore this season while Tortosa was with Jersey Shore for the entire season. Pitcher Andrew Bechtold (0-3, 4.26) was also recently promoted to Lehigh Valley from Reading.
