Lehigh Valley IronPigs
The IronPigs’ September 4 matchup against the Toledo Mud Hens was suspended in the top of the sixth inning due to heavy rain at Coca-Cola Park. At the time of suspension, Toledo led 6–3. Lehigh Valley had jumped out to a 3–0 lead behind a solo home run from Brewer Hicklen, an RBI single from Rafael Lantigua, and Otto Kemp scoring from third on a wild pitch. However, Toledo rallied in the sixth with a bases-loaded single by Jace Jung and a three-run homer from Eduardo Valencia. The game will resume on Friday, September 5 at 5:05 p.m., followed by the regularly scheduled game approximately 40 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended contest.
Reading Fightin Phils
Reading fell 4–1 to the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin’ Park. Jean Cabrera delivered a solid start, retiring 10 straight batters before allowing a run in the fourth. He finished with 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, and 4 K. Gunner Mayer struggled in relief, allowing two runs – one earned – on a single and a fielding error. Andrew Baker gave up an insurance run in the seventh.
Offensively, Reading was quiet, though Aidan Miller reached base in all four plate appearances (2-for-2, 2 BB, 2B, R). Felix Reyes drove in the lone run for his 56th RBI of the season. Caleb Ricketts also went 2-for-4. Despite the loss, Miller’s consistent plate discipline and Reyes’ clutch hitting were bright spots.
Jersey Shore BlueClaws
Jersey Shore defeated Brooklyn 6–1 behind a dominant outing from Sam Highfill and a five-RBI performance by Raylin Heredia. Highfill tossed 6.0 no-hit innings, walking one, hitting one batter, and striking out six. He induced two double plays and faced the minimum through six. Relievers Casey Steward, Titan Kennedy-Hayes, and A.J. Wilson combined to allow just one hit – a solo homer in the eighth – while striking out four.
Offensively, Heredia opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first and later crushed a three-run homer in the fifth, his seventh of the season. Dante Nori added an RBI double and scored twice, while Aroon Escobar walked twice and scored a run. The BlueClaws capitalized on walks and defensive miscues, showing patience and timely hitting throughout the game.
Clearwater Threshers
Let the celebration begin! Clearwater clinched a playoff berth with a 7–3 win over the Tampa Tarpons at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers scored in each of the first two innings and broke the game open in the fourth and fifth. Nolan Beltran led the offense, going 2-for-2 with 3 RBI, including a two-run single and a bases-loaded walk. Nathan Humphreys reached base twice, stole a base, and laid down a key sacrifice bunt. Tyler Pettorini scored twice and added an RBI.
On the mound, Ryan Degges allowed 2 ER over 4.0 IP. Keegan Batka and Zack Tukis combined for 2.0 IP with 1 ER. Luis Avila earned the win with 3.0 scoreless, hitless innings, striking out five and walking two. The Threshers’ balanced attack and Avila’s shutdown relief sealed the victory and postseason spot.
