Lehigh Valley IronPigs

The IronPigs unleashed a relentless offensive barrage in their 15–3 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Wednesday. After three scoreless innings, Lehigh Valley erupted for 15 runs between the fourth and sixth innings, including a nine-run sixth that buried Omaha. The scoring was fueled by a balanced attack with 8 of the 9 starting players getting at least one hit and five hitters having multi-hit games. Rodolfo Castro led the way with a 4-for-5 night that included a home run and four RBI. Gabriel Rincones Jr. homered for the second straight game and also drove in four runs. Castro and Rincones both had a stolen base in the game. Johan Rojas had singled and scored in the nine-run sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.

On the mound, Lehigh Valley’s pitching staff held firm. Starter Ryan Cusick went three innings in a bullpen game for the IronPigs. Devin Sweet (3-1, 4.96) got the win with two innings of shutout relief where he allowed just one hit. Guillo Zuniga threw two clean innings and struck out four batters and Daniel Harper threw a perfect ninth inning as the bullpen didn’t allow a runner over the final three innings of the game.

Reading Fightins

Reading managed a first inning run and was then held off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game as they dropped a 5-1 decision to the Chesapeake Bay Sox. Felix Reyes and Alex Binelas both had a pair of hits for Reading with Reyes launching a first inning solo home run.

Starter Charles King lasted just 4.1 innings for Reading and gave up two earned runs, but did record eight strikeouts. Tristan Garnett and Andrew Bechtold both threw a shutout inning out of the bullpen to keep Chesapeake from adding to their lead late in the game, but the Reading offense was unable to close the gap.

Jersey Shore BlueClaws

Jersey Shore fell 4–3 to the Aberdeen IronBirds in a tightly contested game. The BlueClaws jumped out to a 2–0 lead, manufacturing runs through aggressive baserunning and timely sacrifice flies. Dante Nori walked, stole second and third, and scored on a sac fly by Aroon Escobar. The second run came without a hit, thanks to three walks and a groundball double play. Raylin Heredia continues his torrid hitting and provided the offensive highlight with a solo home run in the sixth, his third in the past week. The BlueClaws threatened in the eighth, loading the bases, but couldn’t capitalize. John Spikerman and Trent Farquhar each had two hits, contributing to a balanced offensive effort that fell just short.

Starter Brandon Beckel pitched five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He kept the game close and showed solid command until Aberdeen broke through in the third with a two-run double and a sac fly. Alex McFarlane and Saul Teran both provided a shutout inning of relief for Jersey Shore.

Clearwater Threshers

Clearwater dropped a 6–5 heartbreaker to the Daytona Tortugas, despite early offensive success. The Threshers plated two runs in the first inning on a Raider Tello double, scoring Manolfi Jimenez and Jonathan Hogart. In the fifth, Luke Davis delivered a two-run double, followed by a Tyler Pettorini RBI single to extend the lead to 5–3. Tello continued his hot streak, driving in runs for the fourth straight game and reaching 50 RBI on the season. Hogart recorded his fourth multi-hit game in just 16 professional games, while Davis notched his fifth multi-RBI performance. Barker also picked up his first professional hit.

Pitching was mixed. Starter Juan Amarante allowed three runs – one earned – over 4.2 innings, striking out three. Orlando Gonzalez gave up two runs in relief, and Danny Wilkinson took the loss, surrendering the go-ahead run in the eighth. Despite putting two runners on with nobody out in the ninth, Clearwater was unable to tie the game.
