Lehigh Valley IronPigs
Lehigh Valley secured a dramatic 5–4 walk-off win over the Durham Bulls at Coca-Cola Park. Trailing 4–2 in the ninth inning with two outs, Otto Kemp drew a walk and advanced to third on Donovan Walton’s bloop single. Rafael Lantigua then blasted a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall for a three-run homer to seal the victory. Just one night earlier, Lantigua drew a franchise record five walks in a win over Durham. Walton finished the game with three singles, a walk, two stolen bases, and a run scored and Brewer Hicklen homered earlier in the game for Lehigh Valley. Six IronPigs pitchers combined to throw a bullpen game with Seth Johnson throwing a clean top of the ninth inning to get the win. Guillo Zuniga, Daniel Robert, Lou Trivino, and Johnson combined to throw five shutout innings and allowed just one hit and two walks – all issued in Trivino’s two inning outing – to close out the game. Johan Rojas singled in the fourth inning and Justin Crawford – on his bobblehead night – took an 0-for-5 with three strikeouts to snap his 13-game hitting streak.
Reading Fightin Phils
The Fightins banged out 14 hits that resulted in seven runs to beat Altoona 7-1 Wednesday night. Nick Dunn hit a pair of two-run home runs and Aidan Miller had three hits, including two doubles to pace the Reading offense. Dunn’s first home run highlighted a three-run fourth inning and the second put two runs on the board in the sixth. Starter Estibenzon Jimenez allowed four hits over six innings and struck out eight batters. The only run he allowed was unearned. Tristan Garnett, Andrew Bechtold, and John McMillon all threw a scoreless inning for Reading.
Jersey Shore BlueClaws
Jersey Shore and Hudson Valley were rained out at Shoretown Ballpark in Lakewood, NJ Wednesday night. The teams will play a doubleheader Thursday.
Clearwater Threshers
The Threshers scored twice in the third inning and then used strong pitching to hang on for a 2-1 win over Jupiter at BayCare Ballpark. Both runs scored without the benefit of a hit when Robert Phelps led off the inning by being hit by a pitch and then stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Carlos Sanchez. A wild pitch allowed Phelps to score. Leadoff man Dante Nori used the same type of formula to generate a run when he walked, stole second, and moved to third on a fielding error by Emilio Barreras. One out later, Nathan Humphreys lifted a sac fly to bring in Nori. Ramon Marquez got the start and threw five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out seven of the 15 batters he faced to get the win. Adilson Peralta threw three shutout innings Danyony Pulido threw a perfect ninth inning to record the save.
