Trea Turner and Bryce Harper put on a power display Monday night in the Phillies 12-7 win over the Seattle Mariners at Citizens Bank Park. J.T. Realmuto also homered on the 20th pitch he saw on the night, which came in just his second at-bat.
For Turner, it was his 13th home run of the season but his first at home. It was also the 1,500th hit of his career. On the night, Turner finished 5-for-6 with two runs scored and five RBI. The night pushed his average to .295 this season with a .351 on-base percentage and a .442 slugging percentage. In August, Turner is batting .333 (24-for-72) and now has five consecutive multi-hit games and over his three seasons with the Phillies, Turner has produced a 60-195-.284/.355/.457 line in 399 games.
Harper’s historic night was one of distance. In the sixth inning, Harper hit a home run into the second deck in right-center field that was projected to be 440 feet, which made it his longest home run since September 23, 2023. An inning later, Harper was at it again when he smashed the ball off the facade of the second deck in right-center. This one was projected at 448 feet making it his new longest home run since 2023.
No other player in the majors this season has hit a pair of 440-foot home runs in the same game. Harper is also the first Phillies player to accomplish the feat since 2015 when Statcast began tracking the distance of home runs.
“I think the last 30 games have been really good, been hitting for power, been hitting the best I can,” said Harper of the 888 total feet of home runs that he launched Monday night. As for his last 30 games, Harper is right. He has a .950 OPS over the past 30 games and 11 of his 22 extra-base hits have been home runs.
Overall the Phillies collected 21 hits and put up six runs in the second inning against starter Logan Gilbert (3-5, 3.83).
All of the offense overshadowed what Ranger Suarez was able to do on the mound. The lefty rebounded from the struggles he has gone through in his last five games that have pushed his season ERA from 2.15 to 3.28 coming into his start against Seattle. Facing the Mariners, Suarez threw 6.2 innings and allowed just four hits that resulted in two earned runs. For the first time in his career, Suarez posted a 10 strikeout, zero walks game.
The Phillies and Mariners have two more games at Citizens Bank Park before the team gets their first off-day in two weeks. This weekend the Washington Nationals come into The Bank.
