Eduardo Tait, the top catching prospect in the Phillies organization, was promoted to High-A Jersey Shore from Low-A Clearwater on Tuesday. The 18-year-old is the youngest player to join the BlueClaws since they became the Phillies High-A affiliate in 2021 and is the second highly rated Phillies prospect to join Jersey Shore in the last two weeks after Aroon Escobar made the transition on July 8.
Tait was tied for the Florida State League league in home runs (11) and led the league in RBI (51) and extra-base hits (34) when he was promoted. He was also third in the league with 19 doubles. Tait and Andrew Painter, the Phillies top overall prospect, were both selected to participate in the 2025 Futures Game in Atlanta but the Phillies held Painter out of the annual showcase as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery.
Tait was signed by the Phillies as an international free agent in January of 2023 out of Panama. Last year, he hit a combined .302 with 11 home runs and 73 RBI in 79 games between the FCL Phillies and Clearwater. In 103 games with Clearwater, Tait produced a line of 16-75-.256/.321/.443 and posted a .990 fielding percentage behind the plate, throwing out 33% of runners attempting to steal against him.
In 10 games with Jersey Shore, Escobar, who has played both second and third base this season, is hitting 0-6-.263/.286/.342 after producing an 11-42-.285/.377/.452 line in 69 games with the Threshers to start the season.
