Ranger Suarez is on his way back. The 29-year-old left-hander made his first rehab start with Clearwater Thursday night and got good results in three innings of work for the Threshers. The best news actually came the following day when Suarez reported that he felt good after the outing, reporting no back stiffness from the outing.

Suarez needed just 33 pitches to get through the outing, 24 of which were strikes as he completed the outing without allowing any runs or walks. Hitters collected just one hit and Suarez struck out four Daytona batters. The lefty threw generally between 90 and 92 mph, which is where he sits in most outings. The fact that his velocity was good was also a good sign takeaway from the outing.

In the first outing, Suarez put Daytona down in order striking out all three batters he faced. The first two strikeouts came on 74 mph curveballs and the third was on a 92.5 mph four-seam fastball. The fourth strikeout of the night came on another curveball at 73.2 mph.

The plan is for Suarez to make at least two more starts and extend his outings by an inning in both starts. A fourth rehab start is not out of the question since Suarez was injured early in spring training and threw just five innings. The Phillies want to be sure Suarez is healthy since he has issues with back injuries in the past.
