Johan Rojas is having a strong spring (2-7-.316/.381/.526), but until today had not been cleared to play defensively and has served as a designated hitter. During winter ball, Rojas jammed his shoulder sliding head first into second base and the Phillies elected to be cautious with him during spring training, hoping to avoid any long-term stay on the IL.

The 24-year-old hit 3-32-.243/.279/.322 in 120 games last season with the Phillies. With the addition of left fielder Max Kepler, the Phillies have some options on how to set their outfield. Rojas is the best of the three players defensively and could wind up being the every day starting center fielder, platooning with Marsh in center, or could be the fourth outfielder coming off the bench. Marsh played center and left for the Phillies last season and could start or platoon at either spot. Because of his versatility, Marsh could also be the fourth outfielder off the bench.

Kepler may have solidified his spot in left field with an impressive spring. In 14 games, Kepler has a line of 3-10-.364/.475/.697. Marsh this spring has hit 1-4-.281/.477/.406 in 16 games. The Phillies also have outfielders Cal Stevenson and Oscar Mercado remaining in camp and Kody Clemens can also play in the outfield, but is primarily a first baseman. The Phillies have used utility player Edmundo Sosa in left field at times this season.
