Ranger Suarez made his fifth start of the season Tuesday night facing the team that is his namesake. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as well as he would have liked and between a tough outing and some shaky defense behind him, the result was a 6-4 loss.

RANGER’S NIGHT… Suarez gave up six hits and walked two batters over five innings, but the biggest harm came on an Alec Bohm fielding error that put runners on first and second with no outs in the sixth. Seranthony Dominguez struck out Kole Calhoun and former Phillie Brad Miller before giving up a two-run double followed by an RBI single to give Texas a 6-3 lead… Nick Nelson (2 IP) and Andrew Bellatti (1 IP) were impressive in relief, giving up just one hit and no walks and striking out five.

WP: Burke (3-0, 1.93), LP: Suarez (2-1, 4.63), SV: Barlow (2, 2.45)

SUBBING IN… Joe Girardi did some lineup juggling, partly by design and partly out of necessity. Nick Castellanos was scratched when his wife went into labor and Odubel Herrera was bothered by sinus issues prior to the game and was also scratched. Matt Vierling took over for Castellanos and went 2-for-3 and Roman Quinn played in center and went 1-for-4… Girardi changed the top part of the lineup with Kyle Schwarber (0-for-5) moving back to the leadoff spot and Bohm (2-for-4) batted second. Rhys Hoskins (1-for-4, 2 RBI) dropped to fifth and Jean Segura (1-for-4) hit seventh… J.T. Realmuto hit his second HR of the season and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

HR: TEX – Graver (3), Heim (3); PHIL – Realmuto (2)

PHIL-INS… Castellanos will likely go on the Paternity List Wednesday and Philadelphia will recall someone from either Lehigh Valley or Reading. Both teams are on the road and could not get a player to New York in time for last night’s game. Simon Muzziotti will not be coming back to the Phillies, as he himself is on the IL… If the Phillies look for the hottest bat to replace Castellanos, Darick Hall is the easy choice as he continues to smack the ball around for Lehigh Valley. Since Hall is not on the 40-man roster, Nick Maton or possibly Donny Sands are the more likely choices… LHPs Damon Jones and Cristopher Sanchez were optioned to Lehigh Valley to get the Phillies roster down to 26. In corresponding moves, RHP Jake Newberry and LHP Zach Warren were placed on the seven-day IL.

FIVE BIG PIGGIE WINS… Lehigh Valley won their fifth straight game by beating Syracuse (NY Mets) 6-3 on Tuesday night. Yairo Munoz, Darick Hall and Drew Maggi each had two hits for the IronPigs. Hall hit his ninth double of the season and Dustin Peterson smacked his fifth of the season… Starter Ricardo Sanchez threw four shutout innings, Joe Gatto (WP 3-0, 4.35) threw two shutout innings and Tyler Cyr shut down the Mets for one inning.

DOGS TAKE FIGHTINS FOR A WALK-OFF… Portland (Boston) downed Reading 5-4 in 11 innings Tuesday. Bubby Rossman (LP 1-2, 6.94) took the loss when he allowed an 11th inning run. Starter James McArthur allowed one run in four innings, Matt Seelinger threw two shutout innings and McKinley Moore threw one shutout inning… Two of Reading’s six hits were home runs, with Aldrem Corredor hitting his second and Jhailyn Ortiz hit his fifth.

‘CLAWS CLIP RENEGADES… The Jersey Shore BlueClaws won the opener of their home series with the Hudson Valley Renegades (NY Yankees) 5-3 with Ethan Lindow (WP 1-0, 0.61) picking up the win and allowing just one walk and no hits over four innings. Lindow struck out seven of the 12 batters he faced. Andrew Schultz, Andrew Baker and Jason Ruffcorn held Hudson Valley to two hits over the final three innings… Casey Martin had two doubles and scored two runs for Jersey Shore. Ethan Wilson and McCarthy Tatum also had two hits for the ‘Claws.

A LATE RUN SINKS THE THRESHERS… With the score tied 2-2, a double by Roque Salinas drove in the go-ahead run for Dunedin (Toronto) to beat Clearwater 3-2. The double was one of two hits allowed by Gabriel Yanez (0-1, 2.61) in two innings of work, giving him the loss. Starter Gunner Mayer went five innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits and Konnor Ash allowed a hit, but struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth. The three Clearwater pitchers combined to strike out 11 while not issuing a walk… Hao Yu Lee had three hits to push his average over .300, leaving him at .306 on the season. Lee also drove in both Threshers runs, giving him 13 on the season.
