Phils, Tigers tie in spring opener

OFFENSE: Outfielder Justin Williams, who is in camp on a minor league contract, finished the day 2-for-2 with two singles… The long balls came from Darrick Hall and Matt Kroon. Both were two-run shots… Two of the most watched players this spring – Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm – both were in the starting lineup and both finished the day 1-for-3. Bohm also scored a run and drove in a run on an RBI groundout.

PITCHING: Michael Kelly, who is also in camp on a minor league contract, started and threw two shutout innings… Throwing one-inning of shutout ball were Jake Newberry, Jonathan Hennigan, Joe Gatto (two strikeouts), Braeden Ogle, and Nick Duron… Cam Bedrosian gave up two earned runs on two hits – both homeruns – in one inning of work… Tyler Cyr was rocked by Detroit when he allowed three earned runs on two hits and a walk in just 2/3 of an inning.

KEY PLAY: Matt Kroon’s two-run home run in the seventh tied the game at 6-6 after the Tigers scored three in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-4 lead.

PHILLIES NOTES: In addition to Bohm and Stott, Mickey Moniak (RF) and Nick Maton (2B) also were in the starting lineup… Logan O’Hoppe will likely be the starting catcher for Lehigh Valley, but has an outside shot at backing up JT Realmuto in Philadelphia. He did not start, but came on to go 1-for-2. Another potential backup, Donny Sands, started and went 1-for-3.
