The Phillies recently announced their minor league coaching staffs for the upcoming season. We’ll take a look at the staffs in a four-part series covering the rest of this week. We start with Part One, the bench coaches.

Greg Legg was drafted by the Phillies in 1982 and has 39 seasons with the Phillies organization either as a player, coach or minor league manager. This will be Legg’s second season as Gary Jones’ bench coach with Lehigh Valley. His most recent managerial stint was with the Reading Fightins in 2017 and 2018, but he has managed throughout various levels in the Phillies minor league system.

Nelson Prada will be in his second season as Williams’ bench coach at the Double-A level. Prada is entering his eighth season in the Phillies player development department after joining the Phillies to manage at Williamsport in 2013. He spent four seasons in the Twins minor league organization as a player prior to being released during spring training in 1999. Upon his release, he joined Minnesota’s player development staff and has worked in player development since then.

Mycal Jones, 32, joins the Phillies after coaching at the Double-A level with Houston. Jones was drafted by the Braves in the fourth round of the 2009 Draft and spent seven seasons in the minors and another in independent ball prior to becoming a minor league coach.

Geoff Jimenez makes his professional coaching debut with Lakewood in 2020 after spending the 2019 season as the recruiting director and assistant coach with Maryville University in St. Louis. Prior to that he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Missouri State after playing collegiately at both Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University.

Jonathan Prieto comes to the Phillies for the 2020 season after spending four seasons as a player and another 10 as a minor league coach in the Pirates organization. Prieto is no stranger to the NYPL having spent the 2014 season as a coach with Jamestown and the next four seasons coaching with West Virginia.
