Former Phillie Darin Ruf is back in the states to fight for a job with the San Francisco Giants. Ruf spent the past three seasons with the Samsung Lions in the Korea Baseball Organization after having his contract purchased by the Lions from the L.A. Dodgers.

Ruf is now 33 and coming off three strong seasons in Korea where he averaged just over 28 home runs per season with a .313/.404/.564 slash line. The Phillies drafted Ruf in the 20th round of the 2009 Draft and he played with the Phillies from 2012-2016, hitting 35-96-.240/.314/.433 in 737 at-bats in the majors. Following the 2016 season, the Phillies traded Ruf to the Dodgers along with Darnell Sweeney for Howie Kendrick. Before he even played a game for L.A., the Dodgers sold his contract to the Samsung Lions in February of 2017.

Ruf also received an invitation to major league spring training and will have a shot at making the Giants roster for the 2020 season.
